Description
This piece brings together the Ouroboros, the Sri Yantra, and the Endless Knot as a way of exploring both Eastern and Western ideas around life and death. I wasn’t interested in using them as fixed symbols, but more as systems of thinking, fusing together a different way of understanding time, existence, and continuity.
The size and proportions of the illustration are based on Pi, which felt like a natural way to introduce something infinite and universal into the structure of the work. It allowed the piece to be governed by a logic that sits beyond culture or language, reinforcing the idea of cycles and repetition.
I approached the composition through what I think of as geometrical theology, by using geometry as a way to translate spiritual and philosophical ideas into a visual form. This art work will respond to a pendulum.
